Southern Tequila and Taco Fest to raise money for Remote Area Medical

Get ready for more vendors, more tequila and more fun at the 2021  Southern Tequila and Taco Festival in the JC Penney parking lot in Turkey Creek on Friday, July 23, the eve of National Tequila Day!

Some of the biggest names in tequila will showcase their signature products including Tequila Herradura, Milagro, JaJa and more. This year, you will have the opportunity to sample from more than 100 tequilas and Mezcals.  Margaritas, mojitos, cocktails, Mexican beers and craft beers will be available, as well.  More than two dozen area Mexican restaurants, including Abuelo’s, Babalu, SoKno Tacos and Chuy’s, will feature their specialty tacos and other signature dishes.   Food trucks will also be at the festival.  Plus, enjoy live entertainment provided by John Stone out of Nashville!

The festival is a fundraiser for Remote Area Medical (RAM) which is based in East Tennessee.  RAM Chief Operations Officer, Chris Hall, says the proceeds from the event start locally but their reach extends worldwide.

“Remote Area Medical is honored to partner with the Southern Tequila and Taco Festival for the fifth year!  The festival has grown to be the largest event of its type in the Southeastern United States and the proceeds benefit people across the nation who rely on RAM for free dental, vision, and medical care.  It’s sure to be a great time for everyone and will help raise funds for RAM so we can continue helping our friends and neighbors receive the health care they need,” says Hall.

Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance online at www.southerntequilafest.com. General admission advance tickets are $40.00 ($50.00 at the gate) and include 5 drink tokens to sample tequila and cocktails and 3 food tickets.  The event runs from 6-9pm.  However, an early admission ticket of $60.00 gets you in at 5pm.

Designated driver tickets are just $15.

Sponsors for the event include Woodlake Golf Club, Abuelo’s, Turkey Creek, Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union, Tennessee Smokies, Computer Depot, Dr. Carlson & Associates, TIS, Beaty Chevrolet, Knox Fox Real Estate, Aqua Clear Water System, Edward Jones (J.P. Mackay), Oakes Law Firm and more.

Remote Area Medical (RAM)’s mission is to prevent pain and alleviate suffering by providing free, quality health care to those in need. Many people live in fear of sickness and injury simply because they have little or no access to basic medical care. RAM responds to this need by providing free, quality dental, vision and medical care to those who cannot afford it. In less than 24 hours RAM turns fairgrounds, schools, jungles and arenas into mobile medical centers. In 2018, RAM served 45,556 patients and provided $15,386,013 in free care.
